Where is Chek Keng? Map Location of Chek Keng
Chek Keng is located in Sai Kung East Country Park on the northern coast of Sai Kung Peninsula, southwest of Sharp Peak. It takes around 1 hour hiking from Pak Tam Au to Chek Keng. Another option is to charter our speedboat from Wong Shek Pier to Chek Keng Public Pier, the journey takes around 8 minutes.
History of Chek Keng
According to an article of the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong Branch in 2003, written by SIDNEY CHEUNG about the study of three villages in Sai Kung. Based on the only one Chek Keng resident at the moment, Hon, and 81-year-old woman, Chek Keng is a traditional settlement consisting of five different lineage groups living together, with surnames Cheng, Chiu, Fan, Lee and Wong, the Chek Keng Hakka Village was probably founded more than 200 years ago.
In the 1980s, one of the villagers in Chek Keng suggested the Government to provide link roads for Chek Keng, but failed, as there are not enough people to justify the building of roads, however only if the roads were built would have more people living in. A trip to the main town from Chek Keng, is either phoning a speedboat to Wong Shek Pier, then take a bus to Sai Kung, normally it will take an hour, not mentioning the transportation fee.
At present, most buildings in Chek Keng can still be seen, even though most of the houses had collapsed. It is believed that there are still people living in Chek Keng Village based on the exterior of the Hakka Village Building.

Features of Chek Keng|Chek Keng Grass Land
Since Chek Keng is next to the mangrove and there were villagers living here back in the early 1980s, there are lots of abandoned farmland which becomes the grassland currently. Those abandoned farmland are redeveloped with the weeds being removed. It’s the reason why you can find grass land everywhere in the Chek Keng and become one of the favourite places for campers.
