Lai Chi Chong – Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark
Lai Chi Chong is a region of complex geological structures and varied rock types. In addition to Late Jurassic volcanic sedimentary rocks and sedimentary rocks, it comprises tuff and other rocks. The most unusual of all is the volcaniclastic sedimentary rock, composed of falling volcanic ash that was mixed with silt and other deposits in a lake. Under the impact of geological processes over the ages, they developed into rock with the characteristics of tuff and ordinary sedimentary rock. It is a rare type of rock in Hong Kong. On the Lai Chi Chong shore, volcaniclastic sedimentary rock and sedimentary rock contain abundant and diverse loose sedimentary structures and a large fold. The area commands extremely high appreciation and research value. (Source: Hong Kong Geopark)
