In 1953, the British Gus Borgeest leased the entire island from the British Hong Kong Government, sent refugees to reclaim and build houses, and renamed the island “Sunshine Island”.
Fun Fact： In 1961, Gus Borgeest was awarded the “Ramon Magsaysay Award”, known as the Asian Nobel Prize. In the 1960s, the islanders gradually moved out.
